Love Shopping? How To Be A Frugal Fashionista

Cutting down on fashion spends while staying on trend each season is the dream for anyone who loves style and all that it entails. The problem with fashion is that it costs money to look good every season, and couture items and high-end makeup are not cheap. Being into fashion and all things makeup can be great for your self-esteem and your look but equally bad for your wallet. All the Jimmy Choo’s and Louboutin’s in the world can’t replace the cash in the bank. It is time to become a frugal fashionista!

The best thing that you can do to keep up your fashion habit, is learn to budget. The better you manage your money, the more surplus cash you have each month to spend on the latest and greatest pieces that come into the stores. So, check out the tips below to becoming a frugal fashionista and get your savings back on track:

Set A Monthly Budget.

If you look at all your incomings and outgoings and write a list, you can see how much you have coming in each month versus what you have to pay for. If you have a few debts under your belt, then you could choose to use a service like to convert those monthly repayments into just the one outgoing each month. This should automatically free up some of your money for disposable income.

Set Your Mindset.

We all know that it’s hard to have self-control when it comes to something you love. If you start out the month with the mindset that you are going to be smart in your shopping choices, you will be successful. Don’t be impulsive and only take out the money that you need when you head to the mall. This way, you don’t get trapped by those slices of plastic in your purse.

Chase The Sales.

Every year, sales are dotted through the stores. If you save your cash and wait for those sales, you can get twice the shopping on half the amount of money. Remember the self-control that we talked about earlier? Even before you hit the sales, make a list of what you actually need to buy, rather than just buying for the sake of it.

Visit Thrift Stores.

A bit part of being frugal in fashion is hitting the thrift stores and knowing their worth. The number of people who donate once-worn fashion items is huge and you can find some quality vintage pieces in thrift stores! Why would anyone pay full price for a Versace dress, when the local thrift store has the same dress for less than half the price? If the fact it’s been worn puts you off, dial your local dry cleaner – that’s what they’re there for!

I love thrift shopping, my mom says my style is mostly 70’s style clothing so I’m always able to find really cool finds there.

I always have fun going to thrift stores. My daughter has the best luck because she finds great deals on clothes! We are definitely a family that doesn’t like to pay full price so we shop the sales.

I am by no means a shopaholic however I find that setting aside money in my budget for shopping is helpful. There are some months when I know I am going to shop more. So Just as I would set aside money for a normal bill, shopping is considered a “Bill“. I do not allow myself to go over the amount set for that “Bill“. So helpful

Managing money goes well with your fashion because you can buy more at half the price. I have never been turned off to take advantage of a thrift store. I also appreciate a good clearance or sale. Eventually that item become popular again .
