The ultimate guide to Christmas movies

The ultimate guide to Christmas movies

Who does not love a classic Christmas movie? It is fast becoming that time of year. You find your warmest pyjamas, fluffy bed socks and plonk yourself on the sofa. While sipping a warm mug of tea or hot chocolate and nibbling on a vast array of snacks, you get comfy. Hiding from the cold weather, under the biggest blanket you can find, you finally press play and enjoy your favourite Christmas films.

Sound familiar?

Christmas time…

is my most favourite time of the year, not because of the snow (we get that in England) but because of time. Sounds bizarre I know but stick with me for a second. Time at Christmas is sacred, you give your time freely in the name of the holidays. Spending time with others, enjoying a nice meal or taking time for yourself to enjoy a film, time becomes a precious commodity that we do not take for granted.

It is a holiday…

In which we are expected to be merry and bright, granted not everyone can be joyous during this time of year however the holidays allow the time for healing. Take the time for yourself within your sanctuary and relax! To me, relaxing is enjoying a trip to another place both visually and mentally, this comes in the form of my most treasured films.

When I need love in my life..

The ultimate guide to Christmas movies, romcom

I watch The Holiday. This beautiful film evokes so many emotions from sadness to laugh out loud giggles. No matter how many times I watch Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet swap homes and countries for the holiday in what would now be classed as an Airbnb situation I weep. Their disastrous lives slowly intertwine into an epic love story over the Christmas period. For that reason, The Holiday has and always will have me hooked!

When I need taking back to my childhood…

The ultimate guide to Christmas movies

The Grinch, Elf or Home Alone is where it’s at. I adore watching the beloved children’s tales by Dr Seuss, Kevin McAlister being left Home Alone over the Christmas holidays or even watching Buddy the Elf navigate the big apple. Each of these story lines have me laughing out loud, shouting at the TV and even moments of sheer happiness. The reclusive green Grinch sneaking into Whoville to steal Christmas, Kevin McAlister battling the nasty thieves to secure his home and Buddy the Elf searching to be reunited from his long-lost father! Each of these keep me coming back for more year in year out!

Keep the kids entertained on the lead up to Christmas and during the school holidays.

When I’m being truly British…

It has to be Love Actually! Are you even from the UK if you have not seen this film dozens of times? 9 lives x 9 love stories = a weeping mess of Amanda! Love Actually pulls at the heart strings and really gets me in to mood to spread love all over the holiday season!

When I need more of a nostalgic moment…

The ultimate guide to Christmas movies

it can be none other than THE best Christmas movie of all time… A Christmas Carol! This iconic film has been made so many times but you can not beat the 1984 classic! Granted The Muppets stole the show with their version and Disney have done a fine job re creating animated version of A Christmas Carol . Ebenezer Scrooge taking on the his grumpy ways in any artistic interpretation can be enjoyed. I do enjoy reliving my childhood in all varying forms.

Is your winter wardrobe sorted?

When I need some action…

The ultimate guide to Christmas movies

it has to be Die Hard arguably not a Christmas film. However it is set in an office Christmas party so it counts. Die hard has you sat on the edge of your seat rooting to McClane to save the day. It Also has me thinking of avoiding my office Christmas party so I do avoid this film till after the date (only kidding). Action packed and adrenaline filled seasonal fun!

When I am feeling like an adult only film…

I reach for Bad Santa. This dark comedy is somewhat filled with the feeling for redemption. This film keeps me laughing in a naughty kind of way, such an anti-Christmas, Christmas film and I love it!

Now I am aware that I have missed off TONs of cult classics however what would we have to talk about in the comments below if I mentioned them all. Let me know your fave films for the season.

Home Alone 1 & 2 are the best movies to start off the Christmas season. It’s not Christmas without them. “Keep the change ya filthy animal” 😂😂😂
